Astro Holdings Berhad is a media and entertainment holding company in Malaysia which began as a paid digital satellite television and radio service called Astro. The company is possessed by Astro Holdings SendirianBerhad which also have possession of Astro Overseas Limited.
In 1996, a hi-tech digital All Asia Broadcast Centre was constructed at Bukit Jalil. At the same time, the MEASAT satellite network began with the launch of MEASAT 1. The new pay-television service named Astrowas launched and started broadcasting with 22 television channels and 8 music channels. The launch of additionalMEASAT satellites from 1998 onward permitted Astro to begin expanding its services.
The Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad is a company which was incorporated in Malaysia with it principal place of business situated at the Administration Building of the All Asia Broadcast Centre, which is located in Technology Park Malaysia.
Since its establishment, it extended to provide management services to its subsidiaries. The company is devoted and engaged in aggregation, content creation and distribution activities this includes the provision of direct-to-home subscription television, library licensing, radio broadcasting services, magazine publishing, multimedia interactive services, talent management, Malaysian film production, interactive content, creation of computer animation and television content distribution. The company is Malaysia’s largest pay television provider.
The company bought Time Highway Radio radionetwork, which is a Malaysia’s private Indian radio station. Astro also launch Malaysia’s first subscription IPTV channels which was based on content licensed from Goal TV (English Premier League Soccer club TV forChelsea, Liverpool and others) and Akademi Fantasia, which is a localised version of an Endemol’s Fame Academy.
